exhibition: Thomas I'Anson
Into it you step..
2 - 30 June 2012
The English artist Thomas I’Anson (1983) currently resides and works in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In 2012 he completed his Master of Arts at the AKV/St. Joost in Breda/Den Bosch.
Steendrukkerij Amsterdam is proud to present a solo show in June by this young artist.
Thomas I’Anson frequently uses different printing techniques, especially offset and the classic stencil in his work. Symbols and loose phrases of text, existing or created by the artist himself, melt together. By multiplying the newly created shape or form, he creates abstract patterns, often covering the whole wall as one single image. Or sometimes poured into the structure of a pamphlet, convey an idea.
It is by adapting the reproductive possibilities of stencil and offset that the artist creates the possibility of morphing both artwork and publication.
In his recent installations I’Anson applies questions and ideas concerning the growing tragedy of ‘ the unknown, the insignificance and the emptyness of our modern society’. For example the overload of images in these digital times, incidently in which he himself participated as fashion model for large brands. “Into it you step, the shadow and darkness, your own oblivion.” (Thomas I’Anson)
All relevant questions which he manages to translate into intriguing images.
